The first fall meeting of Boy Scout Troop 16 will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Maple Street Church. Mr. Thornell, our scoutmaster, says this will be an important meeting. We hope all members will be able to attend.
Have a friend who’s interested in scouting? Bring him to the meeting! We want to see Troop 16 grow. Once he sees what cool things we do, he’ll be sure to want to join.

Boy Scout Troop 16 served nearly 500 people at it annual Spaghetti Supper at the Maple Street Church. The event, part of the Danvers Family Festival, featured everything from a classic Italian meal to a jazz band that includes several of our scouts and cotton candy outdoors. The Spaghetti Supper is Troop 16′s major fundraiser for the year, and it was, once again, quite a success. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Boy Scout Troop 16 presented its first Heroism Award on June 22 to Allen Ellis, who was recognized at the troop’s Court of Honor on June 22 at the Maple Street Congregational Church.
Allen was lauded by troop chairman Gregg Perry and scoutmaster Dan Thornell for calmly using his first-aid skills and calling 911 after his 3-year-old brother was burned by boiling water during a family camping trip last summer.
Allen’s younger brother Troy, also a member of Troop 16, received an honorable mention for helping to guide rescue workers to the scene.
Fellow troop members and a phalanx of Eagle scouts of all ages congratulated Allen and Troy for their bravery, one of the 12 points of the Scout Law.
The scouts are the sons of Robb and Kristen Ellis of Danvers.
Also at the Court of Honor, the troop recognized our two newest Eagle scouts, John Baker and Sky Blanchet. Twelve other boys also earned rank advancements from Tenderfoot through Star. Sixteen scouts earned 35 merit badges.
Congratulations to our scouts for their achievements.

Our new district needs a name, and you can help. In keeping with the nautical theme of the Yankee Clipper Council, the council is looking for entries based on the name of famous sailing ships.
The council will be taking those entries until September 15. The top three choices will then be offered for a final vote by the district’s scouts. The council plans to finish with the process and unveil the new district name at the October roundtable.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries.
Entries can be made by going to the South District page of the Yankee Clipper Council website starting on June 15.
Only one entry per scout is allowed, and a brief description of the history of the ship chosen is required for entry.

The Eagles have landed: From left, Eagle scout (and Troop 16 Eagle mentor) Steve Burrill, new Troop 16 Eagle scout Sky Blanchet and soon-to-be Eagle Evan Palmer. Click on image for more photos.
Troop 16 combined camping with trail work on May 22 to help Evan Palmer with his Eagle project. Evan planned, managed and worked on a project to build and install numbered trail markers on the hilly hiking trail at Endicott Park in Danvers, on the other side of Forest Street from the main park. Congratulations to Evan, who has taken one step closer to becoming an Eagle scout.

Boy Scout Troop 16 turned out in force during the weekend of May 1 and 2 to help Sky Blanchet with his Eagle project. Sky oversaw and worked on a project to expand the playground at Endicott Park by removing the back fence and building a new one. The playground is in the midst of a major upgrade in honor of Sky’s late sister, Shiyanne Thornell.
The weather was ideal for a lot of heavy labor. Dozens of scouts, friends, and family members assisted with the project, resulting in more than 300 hours of donated labor and a demanding job completed in just two days.

Boy Scouts from seven troops, including Troop 16, converged on Endicott Park last weekend for the first annual Danvers Scout Expo. The boys camped out, demonstrated scouting skills, and took part in a cooking contest and service project.
The event was conceived of and organized by Troop 16 committee member (and former chairman) Steve Burrill, with the help of senior patrol leaders and adults from the various troops.
The weather was perfect, and the sight of tents lined up along the edge of the access road was impressive.
Taking part were Troops 16, 58, 67 and 155 of Danvers, Troop 19 of Middleton, Troop 24 of Salem and Troop 466 of Lynn.
