Boy Scout Troop 16 served nearly 500 people at it annual Spaghetti Supper at the Maple Street Church. The event, part of the Danvers Family Festival, featured everything from a classic Italian meal to a jazz band that includes several of our scouts and cotton candy outdoors. The Spaghetti Supper is Troop 16′s major fundraiser for the year, and it was, once again, quite a success. Congratulations to everyone involved.

From left are scoutmaster Dan Thornell and scouts Allen and Troy Ellis.
Boy Scout Troop 16 presented its first Heroism Award on June 22 to Allen Ellis, who was recognized at the troop’s Court of Honor on June 22 at the Maple Street Congregational Church.
Allen was lauded by troop chairman Gregg Perry and scoutmaster Dan Thornell for calmly using his first-aid skills and calling 911 after his 3-year-old brother was burned by boiling water during a family camping trip last summer.
Allen’s younger brother Troy, also a member of Troop 16, received an honorable mention for helping to guide rescue workers to the scene.
Fellow troop members and a phalanx of Eagle scouts of all ages congratulated Allen and Troy for their bravery, one of the 12 points of the Scout Law.
The scouts are the sons of Robb and Kristen Ellis of Danvers.
Also at the Court of Honor, the troop recognized our two newest Eagle scouts, John Baker and Sky Blanchet. Twelve other boys also earned rank advancements from Tenderfoot through Star. Sixteen scouts earned 35 merit badges.
Congratulations to our scouts for their achievements.

Our new district needs a name, and you can help. In keeping with the nautical theme of the Yankee Clipper Council, the council is looking for entries based on the name of famous sailing ships.
The council will be taking those entries until September 15. The top three choices will then be offered for a final vote by the district’s scouts. The council plans to finish with the process and unveil the new district name at the October roundtable.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries.
Entries can be made by going to the South District page of the Yankee Clipper Council website starting on June 15.
Only one entry per scout is allowed, and a brief description of the history of the ship chosen is required for entry.
